“She was the only teacher who was cheerful and young and pretty. The others were old with dandruff on their shoulders. Meck and Stern, with their little caps on, they were old people. And that nice funny boy at her birthday who said that when they had her as a teacher, they could hardly concentrate on their lessons because they kept looking at her. Because she was so young. The boys were crazy about her. She was charming. There’s one photo where she’s leaning like this against a fence, in her high heels, which is particularly nice.“
