It was like a screw which was constantly being tightened

I can still vividly remember the boycott in 1933. Close to the Mittelstraße I could see people in uniforms throwing furniture, carpets and all kinds of things out of the window. That was as early as ‘33. My parents were terribly upset, but everyone nevertheless kept saying it wouldn’t go on for long. Then the boycott stopped. Everything went on as normal. Then it became more and more difficult. It was like a screw which was constantly being tightened.
