K I N D E R T R A N S P O R T
My papers were not yet in order, though, and the Transport left without me. But there were two or three other lads who came with me too. I ran to meet the postman every day; had I got my papers to emigrate to England? On the one day when I didn’t, the papers arrived. The ones on the photo all left and I stayed behind. But I then arrived a little later with the two or three other lads. At the border there was a pretty thorough investigation, with SS officials and so on. And then suddenly, behind the border, there were the Dutch officials and we thought we had got to paradise. |
