C O L O G N E
Things said by Goebbels, in his speeches, got more and more hateful. And in spite of all of this, everyone always hoped that this would soon pass. I had a good friend. His parents were very good friends with my parents. One day, it was in ‘36/37, they had decided to emigrate. Adi’s parents were not very well off. They emigrated and then came a letter. The father was washing dishes in a hotel and his wife was working as a domestic cleaner. So then my father said that he didn’t need to be in a hurry in order to do something like that. And things went on until everything came to a head on November 9th (1938). And then I saw something...I didn’t know my father could be like that. He broke down in a fit of crying. I have never seen my father like that before. In such a state. That is something I will never forget. He suddenly saw that this was the end. There was nothing more that could be done. |
