I believe you are the last one
Actually I think that we occupied the whole train, which came from somewhere in northern Germany, definitely not from Düsseldorf, and then we travelled to Harwich through Holland, and in Amsterdam a Mr Behrends, a man my father knew, came to the train and gave me a little leather box with jewels in it which my parents had given to him beforehand. I still have it today! And they passed some things to eat through the train window, and maybe something to drink too, but I’m not sure. We breathed a sigh of relief as we crossed the Dutch border. I have read lots about officials coming into the compartments and giving the children a hard time, opening their suitcases, taking things away, but none of that happened in my case.
