At first I sewed on buttons in a factory
We lived in the West End, a lovely apartment in a large building, with four children. They worked all day long and so did my uncle. I went out to work then too. At first I sewed on buttons in a factory. I was 16 years old. And then I bought my sister her first pair of shoes. The cousin with whom I was living, she didn’t want any money from me, so I bought my sister those shoes instead. The people were very good to me. Afterwards my sister started working too, when she was 14 years old.
