   So then I bought books for myself for a penny, Penguin books, very good. I remember two books I bought, one was ‘Psychology of everyday life’ by Freud, of all people, and the other one was ‘Growing up in New Guinea’ by Margaret Mead. Each one of us children has their own story; we simply had to survive. We really had no choice. Somehow or other it worked out and you quickly learnt that if you wanted to achieve something, you would have to do it for yourself. Nobody would do it for you. That is an important lesson to learn.
