My second passion was the second-hand bookshops
My second passion was the second-hand bookshops. All the second-hand bookshop owners in Cologne already knew me for when I finally learnt to read at the age of seven or eight years, I would keep turning up to see what there was outside for a mark or 50 pence. So I built up a lovely library for myself, consisting of all kinds of half-torn books which I really did read, too. And then of course I had to leave them behind. I’ve got them all again, not the same editions I had as a child, but I have them all again. And lots more.
