I want them to see me as I am, not over tears
When I visit a school nowadays I try to make the children laugh, and I am glad they laugh, I make them laugh occasionally, because otherwise it does not work for me to sit there and get tearful about it. I want them to see me as I am, not over tears. Although they come very very readily today. I had a lovely thing happen this January when Mandy, the teacher of history who organises this, said to me: “Would you mind if you are not too tired to go upstairs where you could sit with one or two, a few of the students on a one-to-one basis, so they can ask you other questions.” I said: “Yes. Of course. I would be happy to do that.” And I did. And Mandy had something else to do and said: “I am sorry but we have to end up this.” So I got my papers together and I waved 'bye-bye everybody' when a little boy who sat there called out: “Liesl, I love you!” And he wrote and painted, the kids wrote lots of pages and sent it to me, I had lots of responses from classes over the years fantastic responses.
