What I call a real Kuhdorf

   My father was from a place called Hochkirchen. Do you know Nörvenich? Hochkirchen's just round the corner. And that's where they lived. What I call a real Kuhdorf! And that was something very interesting, when we went back there just to have a look around. When I was a child, I used to come into the village with a bottle and carry this uphill to my grandmother's house – it's only three houses, but as a child, it's a long hill! My parents married in 1922, it was a happy marriage but, unfortunately, my mother died in 1944.
