Some of them just never knew that they were Jewish
I'm the local chairman of the Association of Jewish Refugees. I've been connected with the AJR for 70 years, I think. My father was one of the original members, when it started in 1941. When he died I took over the membership. On the whole – believe it or not, until recently, the Manchester group has actually grown! Now you may wonder why that's possible. Quite a lot of people came to this country, were adopted by non-Jewish people and some of them just never knew that they were Jewish. Last Wednesday, we met a gentleman. He did not know until his mother died, recently, that he was Jewish.
