My grandparents are Germans and they are not Nazis but Jews
We brought up our children to know about everything. There were no secrets, there was no complaining, we just told them what had happened. And then, when Stephen was still little, we heard him telling other children, “My grandparents are Germans and they are not Nazis but Jews.” And it was not at all clear to him what the difference was between German, English, Jewish and non-Jewish; it couldn’t possibly be clear to such a little boy.
