“Where are you going?“ ‘‘I’m going to a concert.'’
My husband, that was funny too. I was on night duty, often, and in London we had wonderful concerts in the National Gallery, a concert every day. Dame Myra Hess was a very well known woman. She was Jewish too, and arranged these, and the best artists played there, you could go for a shilling. I was very interested and there was always a long queue of young people who wanted to go to the concert. My husband-to-be was there in his Air Force uniform because he was off duty and I was just myself. We saw each there other from time to time, all the young people sometimes talked a little, but we never had a real conversation. But one day I went to the concert by train, and on the platform was my husband-to-be in his Air Force uniform and then I asked, “Where are you going?” “I’m going to a concert.” That’s how it started, yes, we had the same interests. We both really loved music.
