The children have to know about it

My son always said that I wasn’t telling enough stories, but ever since he said that it was not enough, we talked a lot about it and I wrote everything up so that they know what happened. The children have to know about it. I have also translated all the letters, the letters from my father when he came out of Bergen-Belsen, how he lost my mother to typhus.

Once a year I give a Holocaust lecture, here where we live. I go into schools too, but the people say,“We have heard enough about the Holocaust now.” I was at a meeting in London with very well-known scientists and they decided that there has really already been too much, the people don’t want to know any more. Our story is already very ancient, isn’t it? It was a long time ago. In Germany they have more of a feeling that it was Germany’s fault, don’t they? It’s different here.
