It was no hardship for us to come here

I was 13 when I came to England. I had my bar mitzvah in September 1938 and ‘Kristallnacht’ was in November. We arrived in London in January 1939. That‘s to say Klibansky managed to organise everything and bring us to England in only two months. Unbelievable! There was a letter that parents had to sign to say that they were in agreement about the children coming to England. It was no hardship for us to come here. Not for me. It was very exciting going to Holland by train and then by ship to England. We were here as sort of refugees. We were the first boys and girls from the Yavneh to come to London. About 20 boys and 20 girls. We were in a hostel in Cricklewood and the girls were in a hostel in Willesden. Not far away. The Jewish community in Cricklewood was our sponsor. They were responsible for us.
