P A R E N T S
A very happy marriage for very few years

My parents' business was the ‘Bekleidungshaus Hosenkönig’ [the ‘Trouser King’ clothing store]. My mother was engaged very much in this business, because my father in the First World War was wounded several times. The last time he was wounded he was actually buried alive, and he survived that but he developed nerve problems. So he was put in the hospital in Bonn and eventually he went permanently to the hospital so I think till the age of four I did not see my father more than once. When I was six my mother thought he was a little bit better so he was transferred from the hospital to Andernach and she took me on by this occasion to see him. I know it was the last time I saw him.
